"How is it possible to find meaning in a finite world given my waist and shirt size?"
Sizing: Chelsea-Girl provides you with accurate clothing measurements. Modern-day sizes may be approximated, but keep in mind it's all about proportion. A size 10 means nothing if you're lucky enough to have an extra-extra-small waist and full bust. It's best to know your measurements and compare them to the clothing measurements accordingly. If you're unsure about your own measurements, take them, following these simple directions: Using a soft tape measure (preferably a Tiffany sterling tape measure, like Jackie O's...hers was recently auctioned for $48,875.00, but you can buy one at Tiffany's for $150), measure the fullest part of your bust for your bust size, the smallest part of your waist for your waist size, and the fullest part of your hips for your hip size. For your arm measurement, measure from the top of your arm (at the "V", where your arm meets your shoulder) to your wrist bone. If you don't have a soft tape measure (what, you mean every vintage lover doesn't carry one in their purse?), use a string and then measure the string with a ruler. If you're ordering from another country, keep in mind...we crazy Americans don't use the metric system, just good ol' inches. Disregard any sizing labels on vintage items...they're always incorrect. If you're a size 4, you would have been a size 10 in the 50's, and perhaps a 6-8 in the 70's. Manufacturers continue to make sizes smaller to make women feel smaller (now that some of us find ourselves a size "0", we wonder where they'll go from here...) Condition: Condition means everything to us. We rarely offer items with any imperfections at all, but when we do (we're not going to pass on a great old designer piece if it has a minor pull or discoloration) we will describe the imperfection(s) IN DETAIL. Of course, all our items are vintage, so keep that in mind. "Mint" means the item appears to be unused...for example, an item some rich lady bought in 1961, put away in a drawer and never used. "Excellent" means just that...excellent, though it has been used perhaps once or twice. A handbag may show a surface scratch, or a dress may show a minor fade spot on the lining. "Very good" means excellent but with an imperfection or two that we would specifically mention, like a nick in a leather jacket or a minor stain on a coat. Anything else, we probably just don't sell.
