Handbags

It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with handbags. I’m still surprised by what I find even after collecting them for 25 years. I’ve owned vintage purses shaped like poodles, ones made from sterling silver, some crafted by prisoners and one that lit up when you opened it. But the ones I reach for when I’m running out the door are always big leather sacs…utilitarian yet stylish.

Beautiful tapestry bag is large enough to use as an overnight or weekend bag. Measures 19.5″ x 14″. 29″ double straps. By Down Home Leather, who have been making tapestry bags for decades. There are a LOT of cheap tapestry bags out there with vinyl trim and machine made tapestry…this is not one of those! Excellent, unworn condition.

70s Huge Batik Fabric Hobo Bag

Vintage summer bags are hard to find. There are a ton of ladylike straws out there, but for us hippie chic gals there are few large shoulder bags, or hobos. I especially love the ethnic look of this one, in a great batik fabric. Lined in a black fabric, in very good condition, with a zippered inside pocket. Label says,”100% Cotton Made in India.” Measures 14″ x 13″ x 8″ with double 25″ straps. LOVE this bag!

70s Erda Handmade Deerskin Leather Hippie Bag – Metallic Leather

These bags were made in the 1960s by hippies in Maine. Each one was created by hand and no two were alike. When you see one in person, you understand why: they were total free-form designs, very earthy but also extravagant, often embellished with semi-precious stones. And they always used the finest deerskin leather.

This one is exceptional as I’ve never seen an Erda in metallic leather! Measures 10″ x 10″. Braided strap measures 50″ (can be knotted if you want it shorter.) Excellent condition.
