70s Erda Handmade Deerskin Leather Hippie Bag

These bags were made in the 1960s by hippies in Maine. Each one was created by hand and no two were alike. When you see one in person, you understand why: they were total free-form designs, very earthy but also extravagant, often embellished with semi-precious stones. And they always used the finest deerskin leather. This one has lost its label but is definitely Erda; no one else was doing this type of work in deerskin in the 60s and 70s. Measures 9" wide by 8" tall. Braided strap measures 11". Excellent condition except for minor water droplets on underside of flap (does not show when flap is closed...see last photo.)
